Please treat your deer and moose hides carefully. |
Remove as much flesh as possible.
When transporting the hide, use a cardboard box or burlap bag.
Remember decay can begin almost immediately. Preserve the hide by rubbing fine non-iodized rock salt (2-4 lb. for deer and 4-8 lb. for moose) into the flesh side of the hide. |
Do not make cuts or nicks in the hide when skinning. |
Do not put the hide in plastic. Even when salted, the hide will decay if no air reaches it. |
Only freeze hides that will be home tanned, and not turned in to a depot. |
Spoiled hides will not be accepted. |
For more information, talk to your Depot operator about the treatment of hides.
Thank you for your cooperation.
